What does it mean to be a swinger?

Here is another pretty common question, one I get a lot on my profile on social network sites. Many people think a swinger is an individual who has sex with many partners, however that is really not the case.

Being in the swinging lifestyle usually means that as a committed couple, you explore your sexuality together with each other. This can range from the two of you having sex in the same room with other people, to soft swapping, where you might do oral, but no vaginal sex, to full swap, where you can have intercourse with other partners. Most swingers only play when they are together, in the same room, and when they are swapping with other couples. Some couples allow their partners to play by themselves in other rooms, or even sometimes when they are not around, but that is usually considered something other than swinging, and might fall more into a hot wife lifestyle. Swinging couples also play with singles from time to time, however we don’t consider those singles as swingers, since they don’t have a partner to share.
